When I heard that they were turning The Last of Us into a show, well my reaction was pretty much what happened in the comic. Though it was maybe a bit less dramatic. Still I can’t imagine the show actually being better than the game. It’s not that I don’t like a well crafted show, on the contrary, I think that television and movies are an excellent medium for telling a story. But they don’t tend to cover the little things that happen in between the plot so well. That is where games can really shine. All of those subtle moments where you really get to learn who a character is and their quirks are found in those little pockets. And since movies and shows are expensive as shit to make you have to kind of… skip those.
In the case of The Last of Us, I can’t help be feel like you are going to lose some of value in its characters by changing the format. And if you’re going to spend 10 million dollars an episode to make the show, then it seems like that’s a huge gamble. I mean it’s not like videogame movies are notoriously bad or anything… Now that being said, I have heard nothing but good things about the show. So I could just have no idea what I am talking about.
So why don’t I watch the show? Well I’m not paying for that streaming service right now. It’s not that I am too cheap to pay for it, or even that I never will for some crazy ass reason or another. I’ll get around to it, eventually. “But Robert! What about spoilers?” That ship sailed 10 fucking years ago when I played the game! So I can wait. Besides, If I wait long enough I can binge the entire show.
